Travelling With Anxiety

You know that feeling you get when you’re about to do something extreme? Out of the ordinary? Maybe even a little bit crazy? I know we all experience this at some point in our lives…

Well, this was me waiting at the airport before my very first flight. I had never been on an airplane before, and I was terrified! Travelling with anxiety can be difficult!

I will never forget the lump in my throat as I felt the G-force of the jet when it took off. To say that I had butterflies in my tummy would be a complete understatement!

Using essential oils

We took a red eye (night flight) to London from Halifax, which was about 5 1/2 hours long. Talk about anxiety! Luckily, I had my Orange and Peppermint DoTerra essential oils to keep me calm, or I would have been in a full blown panic attack the entire time!

One thing that I absolutely loved was looking out the window and feeling like I could reach out and grab the clouds! The view from above was absolutely incredible and I will never forget it.

Being able to share this experience with my lifelong companion is such a blessing because Tristian was right beside me, holding me close the entire way. We felt our lives change the moment we stepped off the plane.

I also felt my stomach rise to my throat as the plane started to turn sideways and slow down for landing. I managed to keep it all down while I was on the plane, but when we entered the airport in London, I got sick from all of the motion.

When I was greeted by a very nice man with a plastic bag (in case I got sick again), I knew that the messy feeling in my stomach was all worth it. I can not tell you guys enough how generous the people we have met along the way truly are.

The world doesn’t feel so large when you are able to connect with others who know nothing about you, and accept you as who you are.¬†Even the language barriers are nothing in comparison to the wonderful hospitality and friendships we have received along the way.


Travel tip: If you have never been on a plane before, I would suggest taking ginger gravol roughly half an hour BEFORE you board (unlike myself) and try sleeping if you can. Jet lag is such a bitch!
